As 501(c)(3) nonprofit, First Steps works with families,
early educators, and partners statewide to support children from birth through
age five. Last year, we served over 57,400 children in need--a 50% increase from the previous year. Our investments are working, but they are reaching too few children. In South Carolina, nearly half of all young children live in poverty or low-income households. Last year (FY22), we were able to reach 48% of them.
